About civil litigation
Sometimes, the courts and the government will not help a client when a problem arises. This occurs typically when a person feels they have been wronged by another person or entity. This can happen with a breach of contract, a real estate boundary dispute, a fight over money owed, when someone you hired did a poor job on a project, etc. These are situations where your only recourse after asking nicely becomes hiring a lawyer and filing a lawsuit.
Why is a civil litigation attorney a good idea?
The court system is not user-friendly. It is an entertaining discussion to argue why it should, or even could be, but it isn’t. Many judges hold pro se litigants (what the courts call a person representing himself or herself) to the same standards as lawyers with years of training and experience. That means that if you miss a step in the process, a deadline or a court appearance, your case can be gone. A good and fair lawyer will talk to you about your case and let you know if it is a smart investment to hire a lawyer, or if from a business viewpoint, the case should not be filed. You wouldn’t try to install your own transmission or home air conditioning unit without the proper training, and you should not try to act like a lawyer without going to law school and learning the trade. If your concern is important enough to you that you want or need to go to Court, then it should be important enough to seek legal counsel.
